New Zealand import Toregene is quickly putting together an impressive resume giving her owners a massive thrill on Oaks Day at Flemington bringing up her fourth win from five starts.  Starting favourite in the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Series Final over 1600m the stable was quietly confident, but knew she had to do everything right to take home the $500K purse.

The newly created race had its conditions changed for this year’s renewal, only permitting Victorian-based trainers who had won less than 15 Melbourne metropolitan races during the previous season.

Ridden by Dean Yendall she jumped well from barrier five and settled third on the inside about two lengths off the leader.  On straightening she needed an out which appeared and she took over at the 200m mark and just kept going.

Congratulations to OTI and all of her connections.  Toregene will now be given the opportunity for some black type and will train on towards a group three 1600m mares race at Caulfield on November 26th.  The win takes her prizemoney to $376,975
