Three year old Fighting Sun gelding St Joey’s pulled off an impressive victory to break his maiden at Warrnambool on Jericho Cup Day at only his second career start.  First up from a spell, he started second favourite behind the Lindsay Smith trained galloper Mr Cancun in the 1200m event.

Jumping away ok from barrier 7 with Dean Yendall in the saddle, he was not hustled out of the gates and settled towards the back of the field about 5-6 lengths off the leaders.  Tracking to the outside at around the 400m mark he straightened in the middle of the track and careered away letting down impressively with a eased down 4.5 length victory.

Congratulations to his connections, who look to have a very exciting horse on their hands.  We will now raise the bar and give him the opportunity to head to a Saturday city grade race.  He looks a very progressive horse and we look forward to his next start.
