Lightly raced Fighting Sun filly Rioyuki (pictured on the inside) was able to claim her first metro win at The Valley holding on in a photo finish to take out the first race on the card the 3yo fillies BM70 over 1500m.
Coming off only a fair run at her previous start the stable was hopeful for an improved performance. Jumping away a bit slowly from barrier two she settled down on the inside about three lengths off the leader. Jockey Damien Lane was patient when coming into the turn as she badly needed an out, thankfully the leader shifted off and Rioyuki was able to sneak though on the fence making it a two horse fight to the line.
Congratulations to her owner Mr Tony Stevens, who also bred her. This filly’s race record now reads 7: 2-1-1 with $157K in stakes.
