With a track down grade on route to the races with a horse first up who normally prefers a good track, the decision was made to leave Royal Fox in and thankfully it proved a good one. With local trials also cancelled for the week due to wet weather, Matthew decided if nothing else the four year old gelding by Foxwedge would benefit fitness wise by the run.
Having trialled up well this preparation the stable was confident the horse was going better but he needed to show it on race day, which he did by taking out the 1400m BM 58 at Casterton.
Jumping ok from barrier two with Dean Yendall in the saddle he settled fourth one off the fence. Coming wide out to the better going on the turn he seemed to be just whacking away before he really let down in the final stages of the race to find the line.
Congratulations to his connections, it is great to see him back in the winners stall.
